Tournament Rules and Regulations
1. Eligibility & Participation:
1.1 The Championships are open for participation by teams representing one or two schools combined, a recognised institution (youth or chess academy), a recognised chess body (national federation, state, city or district level). There are 3 categories – Under 9, Under 12 and Under 15.
1.2 Entitled to participate are chess players who shall not have reached the respective age by January 1st of 2007.
1.3 Team Composition: 4 players (1 of whom must be a girl) plus 1 reserve plus 1 captain (or manager).
1.4 There is no limit to the number of teams registered.

3. System and Rate of Play
3.1 The tournament shall be run on a 9-round Swiss System
3.2 Each match between teams shall be played over four boards – one of whom must be a girl.
3.3. Each team shall be comprised of 5 players who shall be listed in a fixed board order (1-5) by the team captain at the beginning of the tournament. This board order cannot be changed during the tournament. The penalty for each deviation from the correct sequence in any round is one game point. Example: 1-5-4-2, two points shall be forfeited in the match. The use of any player who does not appear in the team composition list shall cause that round to be forfeited 4-0.
3.4. Each player shall have 120 minutes to complete the game.
3.5. Scoring - Each team's place in the order of classification shall be decided by the number of match points it has scored.
If any teams finish with equal match points, the tie-breaking procedures, in sequence proceeding from (a) to (b) to (c) to (d) to the extent required are:
(a) by the score of game points achieved;
(b) by the sum of the game scores of all the team's opponents;
(c) by the sum of the game scores of all the opponents defeated plus one half of the game scores of all the opponents with which a tied result was achieved;
(d) by the sum of the game scores of all the team's opponents, excluding the opponent who scored the highest number of game points and the opponent who scored the lowest number of game points.
4. Prizes
4.1 Every member of the winning team (players, reserve and captain) shall receive a gold medal. Similarly, the team finishing second shall receive silver medals and the team in third place, bronze.
4.2 Individual prizes - Players assigned to the same board number in their respective team lists shall be in competition with each other for an individual board prize. For the purpose of this award, the player's percentage score from their games shall be compared. Only the following shall be eligible for board prizes: players number 1-4 who take part in at least 60% of the rounds; players numbered 5 who take part in at least 50%.
4.3 Every member of the best qualified Malaysian team (players, reserve and captain) shall receive a gold medal. Similarly, the team finishing second shall receive silver medals and the team in third place, bronze.
4.4 All participants shall receive a certificate of participation at the end of the Championships.
5. Appeals Committee
5.1 The ACC President, after consultation with the organizer, shall nominate the Chairman of the Appeals Committee before the commencement of the event.
5.2 The Appeals Committee shall consist of four other representatives from four different federations elected by the team captains. Likewise they shall elect two reserves who shall serve on the committee whenever the occasion warrants it.
5.3 The Appeals Committee shall decide on protests submitted against decisions of the Chief Arbiter. The protest shall be submitted in writing to the Chairman with an accompanying fee of US$ 200 or its equivalent in local currency. Requests to the Appeals Committee by the organizers may be made without payment.
5.4 Except for the Chairman, no member of the Appeals Committee shall have the right to vote on any matter concerning his own federation. However, every member is entitled to participate in the discussions.
5.5 If the protest is rejected by the Appeals Committee, the protest fee paid shall be forfeited to the ACC. If upheld, the fee shall be returned.
5.6 The decision of the Appeals Committee is final, binding and takes effect immediately. The Appeals Committee shall keep a record of all proceedings and submit a final report to the ACC President at the end of the tournament.
6. Entry Fee & Hotel Accommodation
US$2,000 per team, including entry fee, hotel accommodation and meals (7D/6N), airport transfer and accreditation.
The official hotel is Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam, Malaysia.
Hotel Rate for accompanying person:-
- USD45 for triple-sharing per day including 3 meals
- USD45 for double-sharing per day including 3 meals
- USD65 for single per day including 3 meals
- USD100 registration and transfer
7. Travelling/Transportation
Travelling costs and living expenses shall be the responsibility of the participating teams
8. Entry Visas
Participants must get their visas at the Malaysian Embassy in their respective countries.

The deadline for registration is 1st November 2007.
Late Registration shall be subjected to a penalty fee of US$ 150 per team.
Players who are absent at the Technical Meeting shall be excluded from the Championships |
