Sri Lanka managed to win 5 gold medals out of total 10 awarded at the 3rd Asian School Chess Festival organized by the Chess Federation
of Sri Lanka, with the auspices of the Asian and World Chess Federations at Hotel Tourmaline, Kandy from 3rd to 10th January 2008. This is
the biggest International Chess Event in Sri Lanka and India, UAE, Syria and Iran along with Sri Lanka participated in the event. .
Sri Lanka managed to win 5 gold medals out of a total of 10 awarded at the 3rd Asian School Chess Festival organized by the Chess Federation
of Sri Lanka, with the auspices of the Asian and World Chess Federations at Hotel Tourmaline, Kandy from 3rd to 10th January 2008. This is
the biggest International Chess Event in Sri Lanka and India, UAE, Syria and Iran along with Sri Lanka participated in the event. There
were a total of 10 events, under 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 Boys and Girls with total of 108 players altogether.
This is the biggest win for Chess as well since Sri Lankan players drag five gold medals in Under 7 boys, Under 9 Girls, Under 11 Girls
and Under 13 Boys and Girls events while India also got 5 golds in under 15 Girls and Boys under 7 Boys and they tied for the Under 11
Girls and Boys first place. Iran also shared a gold medal with India in under 11 Boys category. Sri Lanka drag the all team positions
except the Under 15 Girls Silver and Under 9 Boys Gold.
