The Philippine Olympic Committee has formally recognized the recent elections of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman and President Prospero Pichay, Jr. and Secretary General Mayor Abraham Tolentino. This was announced by POC Secretary General Steve Hontiveros during the POC`s first General Assembly for the year 2008 held last 30th January. Pichay had received a fresh mandate with a perfect 100% vote followed close behind by Tolentino. Long time FIDE official Casto Abundo was named as FIDE Delegate.

This was announced by POC Secretary General Steve Hontiveros during the POC`s first General Assembly for the year 2008 held last 30th January. Pichay had received a fresh mandate with a perfect 100% vote followed close behind by Tolentino. The Board then met 24 January and elected officers. Long time FIDE official Casto Abundo was named as FIDE Delegate.
The POC, the country`s highest governing body in sports, granted the recognition upon reviewing the reports submitted by POC Deputy Secretary General Mark Joseph who personally supervised the NCFP General Assembly and elections held at the Tagaytay International Convention Center last January 19.
A total of 175 votes were cast and Pichay received a fresh mandate with a perfect 100% vote followed closely by Mayor Tolentino. Under their leadership, the Philippines has hosted five big international opens in one a half years and produced three new Grandmasters.
