X World University Chess Championship was held in Russia, Novokuznetsk, 3-11 March, 2008. The tournament was 9-round Swiss, individual (men and women) and team classification. 57 players representing teams from 12 countries (Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Iran, China, Mongolia, Switzerland, Japan, Brazil, Portugal, South-African Republic, Uzbekistan and Russia) was fighting for the title.

Dmitry Bocharov and Irina Vasilevich became the champions in the men`s and women`s tournaments respectively and Russia left the other competitors far behind in the team classification.
