The Asian Youth Chess Championships 2019 finished on the 10th of April in Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka. 571 boys and girls from 23 countries competed in 6 age categories (under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 & 18). The Asian Youth rapid and Blitz events were also held parallel to the main event.
Vietnam took the most medals, 9 in total (3 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze) and won the overall Championship. The Uzbekistan team won the 2nd spot (with 3 gold medals, 1 silver), while India finished on the 3rd place (2 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze).
No section was won with the perfect score, but some players were very close! Dinmukhammed Tulendinov (Kazakhstan) won Open U8 section with 8,5/9. Aizhan Sezdbekova (Kyrgyzstan) won Girls U10 with the same result – 8,5/9 – making a draw only in the last round.
Mr. Berik Balgabaev, advisor to the FIDE President, Technical Delegate, Mr. Hisham Al Taher, the Secretary General of Asian Chess federation, Mr. Bharat Sing, the Deputy President of Asian Chess Federation, Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, Chairman Organizing Committee, Gen. Secretary, Commonwealth Chess Association and Vice President of Asian Chess Federation attended the closing ceremony.
