The U.S. Chess Championship and U.S. Women's Chess Championship take place at the Saint Louis Chess Club from March 20th to April 1st. Five 2700+ players out of 12, including world number two Fabiano Caruana as the top seed and the defending US Champion Sam Shankland is in the Open. Irina Krush is the top ranked player in the women's championship.

The prize fund is USD $194,000 in the open section, with $50,000 for first place, and $100,000 in the women's category, with $25,000 in stock for the winner. Also, the "$64,000 Fischer Bonus Prize" continues to be in offer, for any player that replicates Fischer's 11-0 sweep achieved at the 1963/64 U.S. Championship.
