The European Chess Championship finished in Skopje.
Russian player Vladislav Artemiev became the European champion having scored 8.5 /11. He shared the 1st place with Nils Grandelius from Sweden but was better by tiebreak criteria (opponents' rating minus the lowest). Kacper Piorun (Poland) took the third place with 8 points.
The first 22 players have qualified for the next World Cup.

Final results
Eight rounds have been played in the European Individual Championship in Skopje. Vladislav Artemiev (Russia), Maxim Rodshtein (Israel), Kacper Piorun (Poland), Nils Grandelius (Sweden), and Andrey Esipenko (Russia) are leading with 6.5 points.
Only three rounds remain at the 20th European Individual Chess Championship and in the 9th round the spectators can follow the clash between the leaders Piorun Kacper and Artemiev Vladislav, Esipenko Andrey and Grandelius Nils. On the third board, Rodshtein Maxim plays with the best-rated runner-up, Korobov Anton (UKR, 2686).

The first games of the European Individual Championship were played in Skopje (FYROM) on March 18. 365 chess players from 42 countries, including 143 GMs, 3 WGM, 83 IM take part in the tournament.
The top seeds of the championship are Vladislav Artemiev (2736), Evgeny Tomashevsky (2705), Daniil Dubov (2703, all from Russia), Vladislav Kovalev (Belarus, 2703), Ivan Saric (Croatia, 2701), Rauf Mamedov (Azerbaijan, 2701).
The prize fund is EUR €100,000 (€20,000 for first prize). The top 22 players will qualify for the 2019 World Cup, which will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia in September 2019.
All 11 rounds will be played in the conference room of hotel DoubleTree by Hilton and the tournament will continue till 29th of March.
The Championship is organized by the government of FYROM, the Agency for Youth and Sport of the Republic of FYROM and the FYROM Chess Federation under the auspices of the European Chess Union.
