The Budapest Spring Festival is one of the biggest cultural events in Europe. It will be the 39th occasion when music, ballet, dance, opera and a lot of other exhibitions and shows in almost all segments of culture will be on stage this spring again in Budapest between 5– 22nd April 2019. We are happy to announce that again, a grandiose Chess Festival has been admitted to these unique cultural events.
The main patrons of the event are the Lord Mayor of Budapest Mr. Tarlos Istvan and Mr. Revesz Mariusz who is not only the President of the Budapest Chess Federation but a Government Committee Chairman for Active Hungary.
The grand Chess Festival takes place from 9-17th April in a modern, imposing exhibition hall named Bálna (The Whale), which is located at the bank of the River Danube (Duna) in a central place of Budapest.

Since prize fund is higher than ever this year, the main tournament is for players with FIDE rating over 2200 only with some exceptions in case some junior talents, GM, IM, WGM and WIM norms will be available in 9 rounds Swiss. There will be two more groups to cover every level.
