2018 Asian Amateur Chess Championship started on 31st December 2018 in Zhengzhou, China. There were 9 rounds in total.

71 players from 11 countries and regions including Malaysia, Japan, India, Nepal, New Zealand, Iran, Pakistan, Korea, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei and China gathered in Zhengzhou in this cold winter to welcome New Year by playing their best games in 2018 Asian Amateur Chess Championship.

The championship was held in Jianguo hotel, a five star hotel and one of the best hotels in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan province. The host, MAIDENHAIR TREE chess club, served the best food and provided the best playing environment for all participants, ensuring them to have an unforgettable new year in China.

Madam Tian Hongwei, the vice president of Asian Chess Federation and general secretary of Chinese Chess Association attended the opening ceremony, greeted all participants. In her speech, she thanked Asian Chess Federation to grant the organizing right of this event to Zhengzhou China and thanked ACF for showing their trust for China. “Henan is the birth place of Chinese culture and has a long history and a lot of historical sites. I sincerely suggest that you can come to visit the city and no doubt the city will impress you.” And then she opened the first move, with Mr. Yang Zhongjun the deputy general director of Henan Sports Bureau for the first board. The top seed is Ganduulga Dagii from Mongolia rated 2083.
