The World University Chess 2018 Started in a Grand Style


The World University Chess Championships started in a grand style today at Aracaju, Brazil with a total of 50 players in both Men and Women. Thirteen countries from all over world, Brazil, Argentina, China, Chec Republic, France, India, Peru, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, are competing for this prestigious University Chess event. The 9 round Men ans Women Swiss System Events taking place from 13th to 19th at the Rio San Francisco, hall of the Praia Hotel, Aracaju, Brazil.

The World University Chess Championships are organized by the Brazilian University Sports Federation on behalf of the FISU, World University Sports Federation.

On 12th September evening, in the San Francisco hall of the Praia Hotel, where competitions will also be held, the opening ceremony began with the traditional presentation of the participating countries. The flags of Argentina, China, Czech Republic, France, India, Peru, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland and the host country Brazil began the protocols.

After the Brazilian anthem, CBDU President Luciano Cabral, Antonio Hora Filho, Secretary of State for Sport, Leisure and Youth, and Anthony Davis, responsible for CISCA, made their speeches of welcome and thanks. Anthony made a point of emphasizing the importance of chess on the University scene and praised the values that all chess players should develop with the practice of sports, such as patience and responsibility, he concluded by wishing that "all athletes enjoy the city of Aracaju, make many friends and represent and honor their countries."

Ricardo Japiassu was responsible for the athlete's oath, which included commitment to doping-free and drug-free sports, with a spirit of friendship, fair play and sporting behavior. In this way, for the honor of its countries, its universities and the progress of the sport. In the oath of the referees, the promise was of impartiality and respect to the rules of the competition, with a true spirit of sportsmanship. The local group Xamego Bom closed the ceremony, with northeastern music classics such as "Asa Branca" and "Waiting in the Window".

The 2018 Chess University World Championships is an achievement of the International Federation of University Sports (FISU), the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU) and the Sports Athletic Federation of Sergipe (FAES). With sponsorship of Correios and Quiaodan and support of SuperBolla, Gympass, Government of the State of Sergipe and City Hall of Aracaju.
