Nguyen Thai Dai Van won the First Saturday December GM
It has been the second occasion Nguyen Thai Dai Van (CZE) won the First Saturday GM tournament, performing his third GM norm this time. He also overstepped the 2500 GM rating requirement with this victory so his title is to be awarded by the next competent FIDE Qualification Committee meeting. He has always shown deep humbleness to the game of chess, learning from his mistakes never getting angry because of a loss. They have done a great work during the last two years with his coach IM Berezjuk Sergej (CZE) in finding the most optimal openings for the unique style of Dai Van.

GM Ilincic Zlatko (SRB) is showing up his best again. His goal to hit his best ever 2564 seems to be real considering his performances this year.
The bronze medalist Saptarshi Roy (IND) had completed his third necessary GM norm last month in the newest Third Saturday Tournament series in Montenegro, came to Budapest seeking opportunity to increase his rating over 2500 for getting the title. He took to much risk in some games to get it in one step, but pledged to come back to First Saturday because he found the playing conditions ideal. He is successfully running the Saptarshi Chess Academy in Mumbay. One of his students Das Sayantan (IND) won World Youth Championship in 2008 while Ghosh Diptayan (IND) has already achieved the GM title.

IM Eperjesi Laszlo Dr. (HUN) won the FIDE-master’s group playing like a chess-professor in all his games. We were glad to see his full recovery after illness lasting for some years.

FA Stankovic Miodrag (SRB) acted in polite and diplomatic manner as Chief Arbiter and met all requirements for getting an IA norm certificate. The Hotel Berlin Budapest supported the event with its large and bright conference hall connected with a noise-proof hall for game-analysis. We hope it can be the same throughout the coming year.
