ROMGAZ Kings Tournament 2017
In memoriam Elisabeta Polihroniade
Ten years ago, ROMGAZ Kings Tournament entered the agenda of high-profile international competitions. In 2017 it will reiterate in another format the spectacular side of 2016 (rapid chess and blitz). Then Hou Yifan and Vladimir Kramnik faced. Now, there will be two round-robin 4 tournaments, which will bring together first-class names of contemporary chess with exceptional results.
In the men's tournament: Sergei Karjakin (Russia), the one who was almost took Magnus Carlsen's supreme crown in the last world finals; Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), world champion en-titre at rapid chess; Wei Yi (China), who at only 18 years already holds three national championships of his country; Bogdan-Daniel Deac (Romania), 2015 winner of ROMGAZ Kings Tournament.
The women's tournament participants are: Anna Muzychuk (Ukraine), world champion en-titre in rapid chess and blitz; Pia Cramling (Sweden), European double champion; Elisabeth Paehtz (Germany), number 1 of her country since 2004, multiple national champion of rapid chess and blitz; Corina-Isabela Peptan (Romania).
The festive opening of the tournament will take place in Bucharest, on November 24th, in the presence of former world champion Anatoly Karpov (Russia).
The competition will take place in Mediaş, as follows:
November 26th-27th – rapid chess November 28th - blitz
This tournament is dedicated to the memory of Elisabeta Polihroniade, the creator and main promoter of the ROMGAZ Kings Tournament for the past decade
