Greek Olympian won the First Saturday Budapest GM

GM Kotronias Vasilios (GRE) left no doubt that he is representing a superior level of chess than any of the other competitors this month. He said he could have made it even better, if he had not been disturbed by outer noise. It seemed indeed that his real strength is highly over 2600 as it used to be. His outstanding TPR of 2704 is a true sign of it.

Unfortunately a local TV staff took the usual an ideal venue of the tournament this month so the event was confined to a rather small and noisy restaurant room. Better playing conditions with the large and bright playing hall come back by next month and on. Two players could achieve IM norms but no-one a GM which could have been 6.5 points thanks to the average of 2440.

Former U20 World Champion Buksa Nataliya from Lviv (UKR) came to Budapest to find a strong tournament perfecting her skills for the way of becoming an adult female World Champion one day. She won the highest number of FIDE Rating points as another step on achieving her dreams. Nataliya named IM Vladimir Grabinsky (UKR) as her main coach, who also helped her to silver medal at the National Women Championship of Ukraine last year. Her objective is not only to achieve perfection on the chessboard but to find justice and truth in real life. She is a third year student in the faculty of law at the National University of Ukraine taking her studies there as important as chess.

The representatives of India also put up decent play and Karthik V achieved another IM- norm.

The most experienced player IM Sredojevic Ivan (SRB) won the competition quite easily. He never took unnecessary risk and was playing rather carefully.

Bick Gabriel (USA) again like last month stumbled in the finish just a step away of his goal in achieving the IM title norm.

Rydstom Tom (SWE) was close to his second IM norm but his extremely creative style proved to be too sharp this time against defensive opponents.

The Indian players both played highly over their current rating level and could increase their points significantly.

The rating section was a tough and exciting test for the youngest participant, the ten years old Chubakov Sultan (KGZ), fighting twice against each 5 experienced adults. During the event he took up some training lessons from best FIDE Senior trainers and as a result he played and won some of his games in the style of super GM-s.
