50th Biel Chess Festival Print

The 50th Biel International Chess Festival takes place from 22nd July to 2nd August. The main event is the 10-player round robin Grandmaster Tournament which starts on 24th July.

Accentus Rapid Tournament with special guest Anatoly Karpov is on 23rd July.

Simultaneous

The simultaneous against a Grandmaster will take place in the center of Biel (Nidau / Dufour Street) on July 22, 2017 at 1.00 p.m.
Entries will be accepted latest on July 15, 2017. Limited number of participants!

Swiss Rapid Chess Championship

Mode of playing 9 round Swiss system.
Time control 15' + 5'' per move and per player.
Prizes CHF 1'200, 800, 600, 500, 400, 300, 200, 150, 2x100. Prizes in goods for players with 6 points and more. Best women player, best senior (1957-), best junior (1997+): each CHF 200. Best child (2001+), best untitled player: each CHF 100. Best Swiss (with CH-passport): CHF 400, 300, 200, 2x100. Best players with Elo <2000 and <1800: CHF 300, 200, 100, 2x50. Total prize fund: CHF 7'650 + prizes in goods.
Entries will be accepted latest on July 23, 2017 until 8.30 a.m. at the Festival office (reception).

Master Tournament

Date / Time July 24 - August 2, 2017; 2 p.m.
(August 2: 11 a.m.)
Rest day on July 29.
Mode of playing 9 round Swiss system.
Time control 90 minutes for the first 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.
Prizes CHF 6'000, 4'500, 3'500, 3'000, 2'500, 2'000, 1'500, 1'200, 1'000, 800, 700, 600, 2x500, 3x300, 3x200. Best women players: CHF 500, 300. Best senior (1957-), best junior (1997+), best child (2001+): each CHF 500. Best players with Elo <2200 and <2100: CHF 500, 400, 300, 200, 100. Best Swiss players (with CH-passport): CHF 1'000, 600, 300. Total prize fund: CHF 37'000.
Admission
players with FIDE-rating (list May, June or July 2017) or national rating (e.g. Swiss ELO list 2/2017 or 3/2017) ELO 2000 and more.

Participants without international rating must show proof of playing strength. Applications must be received no later than May 31, 2017 (they should include all tournaments results from the past two years and be signed by the club president).

Entries will be accepted on July 24, 2017 until 12.00 p.m. latest at the Festival office (reception).

The final standings will be created according to point number, Buchholz and progressive score. The worst score in each case will be deleted. Prizes will be shared upon the final ranking (and not the “Hort System”).

Admission
players with FIDE rating (list May, June or July 2017) or players with national rating ELO 2050 and below (e.g. Swiss ELO list 2/2017 or 3/2017), independent of their FIDE rating.

Participants without international or national rating must show proof of playing strength. Foreign players without national rating are not qualified to get prizes. In all special cases, the tournament organiser will have the final decision.

Best players with Elo <2000 and <1800: CHF 100, 60, 40. Total prize fund: CHF 5'900 + prizes in goods.

Youth Tournament

Free entry in the Youth tournament! The Foundation Vinetum offers free entry fee, free lunch and prizes for all participants at the Youth tournament.
