The Cuban Federation and the National Chess Commission, under the auspices of the National Institute of Sports Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), and the support of Hotel Chain Barceló and hotel Solymar Arenas Blancas, have organized the 52nd Capablanca Memorial International Tournament from May 26 to June 6, 2017.
The main Elite Group was as usual six-players double round robin. The average elo was 2656. The Open section featured 140 participants, including 14 Grandmasters and 30 International Masters.
Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran from India convincingly won the Elite Group with 6,5 points, leaving the opposition a full point behind.
The six-times winner Vassily Ivanchuk and Samuel Shankland shared the second place with 5,5 points each.
