5th Polish-Hungarian Friendship Chess Tournament |

In the International Congress Center in Katowice takes place the 5th Polish-Hungarian Friendship Chess Tournament. The organizers of this event are the City of Katowice, City of Miskolc and Silesian Chess Federation.
The tournament was opened by the initiator of the tournament and promoter of the Polish-Hungarian friendship, and former vice-president of the City of Katowice Michał Luty. There are 638 competitors in the event. Among the chess players fighting in 6 tournament groups are two silver medalists of the Chess Olympiad in Baku – GM Monika Soćko and WGM Jolanta Zawadzka. In the first event day there has been also a meeting with Olympiads and coach of Polish Women’s Team, IM Marek Matlak. Youth players could personally ask experienced players about their first steps in chess career and get autographs.
Tournament is played at distance of 9 rounds of 2x15 minutes + 10 seconds/move. The prize fund is 34.000 PLN and the winner of OPEN Group will receive 4.000 PLN. All children participating in the competition will receive gifts and medals.

After the first day of competition results are as follows:
1. Reza Wojciech, 5 pts; 2. GM Miśta Aleksander, 5 pts; 3. GM Heberla Bartłomiej, 5 pts. Current best woman is Jolanta Zawadzka, who has 4,5 points and is on 9th place.
Group A (players born in 2003 and younger): Golenia Wojciech, 4,5 points. Group B (players born in 2005 and younger): Keleberda Timur, 5 points. Group C (players born in 2007 and younger): Malinowski Szymon, 5 points. Group D (players born in 2009 and younger): Wielgus Wojciech, 5 points. Group E (players born in 2010 and younger): Zmarzły Wiktor, 5 points.
Ahead of us there are 4 Sunday rounds. Closing ceremony of the 5th Polish-Hungarian Friendship Chess Tournament will be held on Sunday at 14:30.
