IM Bobby Cheng wins Batavia, makes 1st GM norm Print

Australian International Master Bobby Cheng made his first GM norm while winning the prestigious 9th Batavia GM Round Robin tournament held in Amsterdam, Holland.

Needing to win his last round game with the black pieces, Cheng was able to down GM Tal Baron in just 24 moves!

His 6.5/9 put him in a share of first place with Dutch IM Lucas Van Forrest but Cheng was declared the champion on tie-break.
