36th Zalakaros Chess Festival

Hungarian Open Championship


18-26th May 2017

The Hungarian Chess Federation has the pleasure to announce the organization of the 36th Zalakaros International Chess Festival, which is going to be the greatest chess event of the year in Hungary.

It is the Hungarian National Open Championship for men & women and also National Championship for U20 Juniors.

The event offers a great opportunity for all those players who would like to achieve GM, WGM, IM or WIM FIDE. Title norms since as a principle only players above 2300 will be allowed to enter.

The main Group is named as Gyula Sax Memorial paying tribute to the legendary Hungarian Olympic Champion (1978).

Group B is for players rated 1800 – 2400 (IM, WGM, WIM norms possible). It is named as Barczay Laszlo Memorial paying tribute to the greatest ever grandmaster of Zala Region.

Group C is for players below 1900 (also FIDE-rated).
