On the 26th of June the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met the President of the FYROM Federation Mr. Gicarovski, who informed that the Federation’s main problem is the lack of grass root chess movement – there are about 150 registered chess players in the country, and around 80 of them are active. Also the situation is influenced by the fact that the issue of the chess club premises has not been solved. The possible visit of the FIDE President to the country is likely to become a very serious impetus for this. The FIDE President promised to visit the country in the nearest future after all protocol issues are finalised and also informed the Federation on the preparation for the Chess Olympiad.
GM Adrian Michalchshin, Chairman of the FIDE Trainers’ Commision, participated in the discussion.
