In Memoriam Mark Taimanov (1926 - 2016)


The chess world was saddened by the news of passing away of the chess legend. GM Mark Taimanov died on November 28th 2016 at the age of 90 in Saint Petersburg. He was one of the leading Soviet and Russian chess players. Taimanov got his title of Grandmaster in 1952. He was a World Championship candidates twice (1953 and 1971). In 1971 Taimanov lost to Bobby Fischer. He was also a professional concert pianist. Not just an outstanding chess player but a chess icon Mark Taimanov will be remembered by the millions of chess lovers around the world.
