Closing ceremony of the World Championship Match 2016 |

Magnus Carlsen was crowned World Chess Champion for a third time during the closing ceremony, which took place on his birthday 30th November 2016. The ceremony was organized in the playing venue at Fulton Market Building, South Street Seaport, New York right after the end of the Rapid Chess tie-breaks, which Magnus Carlsen won 3:1, and was attended by more than 500 people, including officials, journalists, VIP guests and spectators.
FIDE Treasurer Adrian Siegel, one of the sponsors of the World Championship Match, Russian Chess Federation Board of Trustees Member, CEO PJSC Phosagro Andrey Guryev and CEO of World Chess by Agon Ltd Ilya Merenzon awarded Magnus Carlsen with golden medal and champion’s cup. Sergey Karjakin received a silver medal. Both players were also awarded with the beautiful pens from S.T. Dupont, which they were using during the World Championship Match.
