In Thessaloniki in the Mediterranean Cosmos mall on Friday 14 October, within the framework of the Russia-Greece year and all its activitites, the chess festival Chessnale Thessaloniki 2016 took place.

On 16/10, Sunday, the 12th World Chess Champion and Deputy of the Russian Duma Mr. Anatoly Karpov has participated in a simul against 20 young talented chess players from chess clubs of Thessaloniki. He had 17 wins and 3 draws. At the same time, in the same hall, a simul was also given by the President of the World Chess Federation Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov with 7 young players, he had 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.

The events were attended by Mrs. Irina Rodnina, deputy of the Russian Duma and 3 consecutive times Olympic Champion in figure skating, Mr. Georgios Makropoulos, President of the Greek CF and FIDE Deputy President and many others.

Afterwards there was a dinner, the Greek Chess Federation gave an award to the 3 times World Youth Champion Stavroula Tsolakidou, who recently won her 3rd title in the category Girls U-18.
