Judit Polgár to be commentator on FIDE 2016 World Chess Championship Match
Judit Polgár, the strongest female player of all time, is to be a commentator for the forthcoming World Chess Championship Match in New York next month.
Polgár who became a Grandmaster in 1991 at the age of 15 years and four months, will anchor the coverage of the match between reigning champion Magnus Carlsen and his challenger Sergey Karjakin of Russia.
Polgár said: “Magnus Carlsen verses Sergey Karjakin is shaping up to be one of the most exciting matches of the last 100 years. Agon has invested heavily to transform the broadcast of the match, with new innovations such as virtual reality and I am excited to be part of it.”
When she became a grandmaster in 1991, Judit Polgár was the youngest person ever to have done so – beating a record held by Bobby Fischer. She was the youngest ever player to break into the FIDE Top 100 players rating list, the only woman to qualify for a World Championship tournament and to date, only woman to have surpassed the 2700 Elo rating barrier.
A season pass to view the entire 12 round Championship Match online can be purchased for $15 here: https://worldchess.com/nyc2016/.
This is the first time chess will join other sports in offering a pay-per-view model. Viewers will be able to freely follow the games live on the official World Chess site and will be able to upgrade to enjoy live video commentary and a 360 degree VR broadcast.
