World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad 2016 started with a new participation record on Thursday.
The World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad 2016 started on Thursday, July 21st in Poprad, Slovakia with a new record number of 41 participating countries. 54 teams started their first round on July 22nd.
At the opening ceremony, the city mayor Jozef Svagerko wished all participants a pleasant stay and good luck in their games. District administrator Stefan Beliak, FIDE Technical Delegate Ozgur Solakoğlu, ECU Treasurer Martin Huba, President of Slovak Chess Federation Frantisek Jablonicky and Organiser Eva Repkova also made their speeches at the opening ceremony.
