Today, July 20th, in Moscow in the Railroad Workers Culture House the celebrations of the International Chess Day were held. It was held in the format of the children holiday based on the world known “Alice in Wonderland”. Among the honorary guests was the 10th World Chess Champion Boris Spassky, who shared with young chess players his memories and gave the valuable directions. The venue is the Railroad Workers Culture House where in soviet times huge chess events were held including the USSR Chess Championships. In 1973 Boris Spassky became the winner of championship, the strongest one by its composition over the years according to the specialists. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the International Chess Day proposed by UNESCO in 1966 to celebrate it on the day of the founding of FIDE. It is no accident that the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and FIDE Vice President, President of Russian Chess Federation Andrey Filatov were present at the celebrations. Ex-European Champion and one of the Trainers of Russian Team GM Vladimir Potkin played a simultaneous game with the more trained children, the other could try themselves in the tournament. The celebrations were organized with the assistance of the Russian Chess Federation, Moscow Chess Federation and their partners. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Andrey Filatov invited Boris Spassky to come to New York for the Match. Boris Spassky said that he would represent there himself and his friend Bobby Fischer.
