FIDE President at Eurasian Blitz Chess Cup in Kazakhstan

On June 18-19 in Almaty at Carlton Ritz hotel the Eurasian Blitz Chess Cup of President of Kazakhstan was held. More than 100 players from 30 countries participated in the tournament. The prize fund is 100,000 USD. It was organized by Shakhmardan Yessenov Science and Education Foundation and the Chess Federation of Republic of Kazakhstan. At the opening ceremony present were the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Arystanbek Mukhamediuly, Akim of Almaty Baurzhan Baibek, the 12th World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov, President of Kazakhstan Chess Federation Galimzhan Yessenov.
During his visit, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov had a friendly meeting with Akhmetzhan Esimov, Chairman of NC “Astana EXPO 2017”. Kazakhstan informed that they would submit a bid to host the 2017 Women’s World Chess Championship.
On Saturday night, Chess Federation of Kazakhstan hosted an official dinner for the guests and tournament participants.
