On May 18th in Moscow Kirsan Ilyumzhinov had a working meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Cambodia Dr. Thong Khon, who is also the President of the Cambodian National Olympic Committee. Dr. Khon said that Cambodia will host the 2023 Asian Games and considers the possibility of inclusion into the programme the tournaments of national chess, Chinese chess (xiangqi) and international (FIDE) chess. The Cambodian side needs the organizational experience and consultations of the international federation. In this connection, the minister invited Kirsan Ilyumzhinov to pay a working visit to Cambodia, during which the signing of memorandum on main directions of cooperation is planned. Among which the establishment of the mind games center. The Cambodian NOC is ready to provide land in established sports cluster. This cluster with area of 89 hectares will be the main center for the upcoming Asian Games. The President of the Cambodian NOC supported the intention of the FIDE President to include chess in the Olympic family. At the meeting also present were Mr. Thok Sokhom, Director of International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Sports, Mr. Ku Khemlin, Deputy Director General of Judicial Development.

On May 18th Kirsan Ilyumzhinov discussed with Mr. Ralf Nienaber, CEO of Nietro Sports, and Dr. Felix Neuberg, CEO of Alma Assets, the possibilities of organizing the 2017 World Blitz and Rapid Chess Championships in Munich. The sides noted the great success of the last year’s event organized in Berlin and agreed to continue working together.
