FIDE President's visit to Armenia
On October 23rd, the FIDE President during his visit to Armenia visited the Chess Academy headed by the Vice President of the Armenian Chess Federation, GM Smbat Lputian. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met with the schoolteachers of chess who were passing the training courses. As it is known that chess in Armenia is included in the school curriculum, Smbat Lputian told about the Academy’s activities and its main achievements. He shared his proposals on popularizing the distance learning project prepared by highly qualified Armenian specialists. The project is translated into English and it will be soon presented to FIDE.
Also in Yerevan, the FIDE President met with the President of Armenia, President of Armenian Chess Federation Serzh Sargsian. The issues of bilateral cooperation between FIDE and Armenia were discussed. At the meeting also present was Smbat Lputian. The FIDE President spoke about the results of the recently held FIDE Congress in Abu Dhabi, the World Cup in Baku and the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship in Berlin.
