Meeting with Russian Minister of Sport Print

On June 5th the FIDE President met in Moscow with Russian Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko. The issues of cooperation between FIDE and Russia have been discussed. The both sides noted the high-level organization of the past major FIDE events in Sochi World Chess Championship Match between Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand, Women's World Chess Championship, and one of the FIDE Grand Prix stages in Khanty-Mansiysk, as well as the close cooperation in promoting chess in the Russian regions.
FIDE especially notes the participation of heads of Russian government in the chess events that gives an additional impetus to the development of chess in the country. The Russian side confirmed its willingness to continue to organize the official FIDE tournaments.
Also Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Vitaly Mutko discussed the situation in the international sports and Olympic movement, after the resignation of SportAccord President Marius Vizer.
