It was with deep regret that we learnt about the sad demise of the father of Ghana Chess Ambassador Joseph Amo Asmah who had made an inestimable contribution into formation of the Ghana Chess Association and the national chess team of his country. For thirteen years he was serving as a president of GCA. Under his presidency it became affiliated with FIDE in 1984. A great chess enthusiast, he has been generously spending his efforts to open several chess clubs in Ghana and has become the first chess arbiter of his country. Thanks largely to his high personal authority chess in Ghana has received essential support from the state and now Ghanaian chess players take part in World Olympiads. On behalf of the global chess community I extend our sincerest condolences to relatives and friends of this great man as well as to all chess lovers in Ghana and Africa.
