On 4 September 2014, FIDE President has visited Cairo, Egypt. He had fruitful meetings with Dr. Ashraf Sobhi - Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports and Khaled Zein Eldin, Chairman of Egyptian National Olympic Committee.
FIDE President congratulated the Deputy Minister for the two historic Egyptian Gold medals in Tromso chess Olympiad as EGY men team won Gold medal in Category B, while EGY women team won Gold in Category C.
Good news were released during the meetings as chess will be an official sport in 2017 Arabic Youth Games in Cairo and 2019 Mediterranean Beach Games in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Deputy Minister congratulated FIDE President for his re-election for another 4 years and confirmed interest of Egypt to hosts world chess event in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. He confirmed also the interest to enter chess in Egyptian schools and 4300 Youth centers in Egypt.
