Dear chess friends!
Ninety years ago, on the 20th of July, in Paris, during the 8th Summer Olympics our organization of FIDE was founded. International Chess Federation was established after the fourth attempt with only 14 founding Federations. Since then FIDE has been growing, gaining more members and more influence. It has passed through a number of crisis and problems, but each time growing even stronger.
History teaches us to learn from our past and to be inspired by the great examples of our predecessors. We celebrate anniversaries to remember how far we can go when keeping faith in what we love and staying true to our principles.
The very basis of FIDE is that regardless of our political views, nationality, sex or age we are all united in our common passion for chess. I believe with all my heart, that by keeping this ideal in mind we shall be able to set and achieve the most ambitious goals.
Let me congratulate all of you on the 90th Anniversary of the foundation of FIDE and to wish this organization, to which many of us belong, to stand firmly and to promote intellectual and humane values.
