FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in the Zambian capital Lusaka on Sunday July 6, 2014 for a working visit at the invitation of the President of the Chess Federation of Zambia Eng. Yohane Mukabe.

During the Working Visit the FIDE President had a Consultative Meeting with executive members of the Chess Federation of Zambia and representatives from the seven affiliated zones that make up the Federation.

The FIDE President was part of the audience that attended a presentation by Kara Chess Academy’s General Secretary, Kgaugelo Mosetlhe on a Community Based Chess programme that has been undertaken in a rural part South Africa and is being earmarked for expansion into the rest of Africa.

FIDE Vice President Lewis Ncube, who is also the Executive Director of Kara Chess Academy, was on hand to brief the FIDE President on the relevance of this presentation to the Zambian chess fraternity and the rest of Africa.

The FIDE President then attended a dinner hosted in his honour by the Zambian chess community.
In thanking the Zambian chess community for their generous hospitality, the FIDE President wished the country’s representatives to the 41st World Chess Olympiad to be held in Tromso in August, 2014 a successful outing.
