FIDE President's visit to UAE |

On June 4 the FIDE President visited United Arab Emirates. In Al Ain he met with the delegation of Asian Chess Federation headed by Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al-Nehyan. The important issues related to the chess development on the continent were discussed at the meeting. It was noted that Asia is the most developing part of planet in terms of chess. India and China became the true world leaders followed by Vietnam, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Philippines etc. At the meeting also present were ACF Deputy President Casto Abundo, ACF Secretary General Hisham Al Taher, FIDE CEO Geoffrey Borg, FIDE President's Assistant Berik Balgabaev. During his stay in UAE the FIDE President visited the Sharjah Chess Club, a true chess palace, in the same range with the chess palace in Khanty-Mansiysk, the biggest ones in the world. The regional FIDE office is located in its premises and operated by Sheikh Saud Al Mualla. The FIDE President thanked Sheikh Al Mualla for his active work including the holding of the Continental Championship in April.
