On April 28, the President of FIDE visited Naypyidaw, Myanmar, where he met with the Vice President of the country Mr. Nyan Tun and other representatives of country's government. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov told Mr. Tun about the World Chess Federation and the unique educational Chess in Schools programme. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov proposed training chess educators and specialists at Russian universities. The same day FIDE President met with the Minister of Sports of Myanmar Mr. U Tint Hsan, who is leading the National Olympic Committee. It was noted that chess is popular in the country. Chess was successfully included in the programme of Southeast Asian Games (SEA GAMES) last year. The Myanmar chess players performed brilliantly at the competitions creating great enthusiasm among sports officials. So, when chess was not included in the programme of the next SEA GAMES to be held in Singapore, this perplexed the sports community of Myanmar. Mr. Tint Hsan supported the idea of FIDE President's idea to include chess in the Olympic family of sports.
