World School Chess Championships 2013 6-15 May, Porto Carras, Halkidiki Greece
The World School Chess Championships 2013 is held in Porto Carras, Halkidiki, Greece. A record number of 550 players from 42 countries are taking participation.
FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov sent from Baku a welcome message for the participants.
During the Opening ceremony Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou from the Organizing Committee greeted the participants and parents, wishing them success in the competition and pleasant stay in Porto Carras.
Alexander Kostyev, President of the International School Chess Union, reminded that the idea to hold the World School Championships was born in this same place, Halkidiki, in 2005, and that the event was growing year after year.
Alexander The Great Open is taking place concurrently and in the same playing hall with the World School. It is very convenient for the trainers and accompanying persons to compete in this event and follow the games of the school-kids. There is also a strong female representation with Women Grandmasters Sukandar, Stojanovic, Klinova and World Senior Champion Strutinskaya, in the field.
