Noureddine Tabbane

(1944-2013)



World chess lost one of the major figures with the passing of Noureddine Tabbane at age 69.

Noureddine Tabbane was one of the strongest Tunisian chess players behind Bouaziz and Belkadi who participated in Olympiads of Nice in 1974 and Buenos Aires in 1978. He was a businessman graduated from the P.C. University in Paris.

In 1990’s Noureddine Tabbane served as a President of Tunisian Chess Federation.

From 1994-1996 he acted as a FIDE Executive Member and from 1996-2004 Mr. Tabbane hold the position of FIDE General Secretary. Mr. Tabbane served as a President of the AIDEF from 2006-2012.

FIDE expresses its deepest condolences to Tunisian Chess Federation and members of Mr. Tabbane’s family.
