We have received the sad news of Mr. Narciso Rabell Mendez passing away in his beloved Puerto Rico.

Mr. Mendez who was awarded title of Honorary Member in 1982 had a very active life in FIDE. He was a Deputy President of FIDE from 1970-1974. Mr. Mendez was an organizer of the 1st World Youth Chess Festival in Americas. He was an organizer of the 60th FIDE Congress in 1989. Mr. Mendez participated in the FIDE Presidential elections twice.
Being a pioneer in chess development on the American Continent he always acted in favour of CACDEC countries.
Mr. Narciso Rabell Mendez will always be remembered by the entire chess community.
