President Ilyumzhinov visits Georgia Print

On February 25 Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived on a working visit to Tbilisi. In the capital of Georgia he met with the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Levan Kipiani (son of the famous Soviet football player David Kipiani), the first Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili, Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Tamaz Tevzadze, and the President of Georgian Chess Federation, Mr. Georgi Giorgadze.
The issues of consolidation of cooperation between FIDE and Ministry of Sports and Youth of Georgia were discussed at the meeting. In particular, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Levan Kipiani discussed the possibility of holding the 2014 World Children's Chess Olympiad and 2015 World Mind Games in Georgia. As FIDE President noted in his Twitter, he presented a souvenir Golden Lion to Mr. Kipiani. The meeting was followed by the joint press-conference.
Today FIDE President met with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili to discuss the development of chess sport in Georgia. A special attention was paid to Chess in Schools programme and its implementation in the country. President Ilyumzhinov noted that good traditions of Georgian chess school are famous around the world and that is why Georgia has all necessary precedent conditions for programme’s realization. A tumbler chess set was presented to the Georgian Prime Minister as a remembrance of this meeting. Levan Kipiani, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, and his first deputy Zurab Azmaiparshvili were also present.
After the meeting Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Bidzina Ivanishvili played a friendly chess game. FIDE President shared his comments on his twitter page. He noted that the Georgian Prime Minister is familiar with chess very well and plays “firmly and attentively”.
