On 29 January 2013 in Moscow the FIDE President had a meeting with Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and deputy of the State Duma.
Chess development in Russia became the main topic of the meeting. It was noted by both of the parties that the implementation of chess in the school curriculum is playing a great role nowadays, as chess is an important factor in children's intellectual development. Gennady Zyuganov and Kirsan Ilyumzhinov recollected the times of USSR when one of the state's programme was familiarization of chess by children.
Also they discussed the possibility on organization of an international chess tournament under the auspices of FIDE and Comintern - the organization of the communists of the world.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov noted that a lot of well-known communist statesmen such as Lenin, Mao, Janos Kadar and others appreciated the royal game and contributed a lot for chess development in their native countries. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation is carrying on this tradition.
