FIDE Treasurer and Executive Director, Nigel Freeman and Continental President for the Americas, Jorge Vega recently visited Mar del Plata, Argentina, to attend the Americas Continental Championship. Mr Freeman was there for the Opening ceremony of the Continental Championship, where Mr Freeman signed on behalf of FIDE a Chess in Schools Agreement with Carlos Fernandez on behalf of the Secretary of Sports of the Province of Buenos Aires and Ing. Mario Petrucci of the Chess Circle Villa Martelli. Mr Freeman congratulated Ing. Petrucci on organising such a strong tournament with over 200 players including about 20 GMs in such a spectacular building overlooking the sea.
GMs Granda, Kaidanov and Shabalov, together with IM Hansen qualified for the World Cup in Tromso. Full results can be found here.
