Today is the 50th anniversary of Nona Gaprindashvili winning the Women's World Championship title. Nona Gaprindashvili became the Women's World Champion in 1962, when she won the title from the reigning Russian Champion Elizaveta Bykova by a score of 9-2. The championship match was played in Moscow. A 20-year old Gaprindashvili crushed the defending Bykova, not losing a single game, to become the fifth - and by far youngest - Women's World Champion. FIDE sincerely congratulates Nona Gaprindashvili on the anniversary wishing her to stay on chess scene and gain more victories for many years to come!
