On 10 June FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived on an official working visit in Kazan. There he took part in the opening of the international chess tournament FIDE Women's Granx Prix and made a symbolic first move. Mr. Mintimer Shaimiev, the 1st President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Advisor to the FIDE President was also present at the event.
Later FIDE President visited the Universiade Village in Kazan which was built specially for the Univerisade 2013. The Universiade Village is one of the key venues of the 2013 Summer Universiade, a Games-time residence for athletes and heads of delegations. The project of the Village was designed according to the FISU requirements. Delegations will be accommodated in single, double and triple rooms and will be provided with all the necessary facilities.
FIDE President visited the simultaneous exhibition of Master FIDE, chess teacher from Nezhmetdinov's school Ivan Gerasimov. Universiade Village Mayor Farid Abdulganiev explained that the Universiade Village was chosen to become a platform for the development of such sports as chess and checkers. Therefore, in September a student chess club will start working at the territory of the Universiade Village.
Then Farid Abdulganiev invited Kirsan Ilyumzhinov to visit one of the building where Kirsan Nikolayevich was pleasantly surprised to meet his countryman living in this house, a student at the Institute of Physics Course Nicholai Potoldykov.
