Chess, FIDE and the Brazilian Social Project "Chess that brings Freedom" created by Brazilian Educator Charles Moura Netto and that has as consultant GM Darcy Lima were the first among three prize winners of the important "Spirit of Sport" Award. The announcement of the prize was made during the Sportaccord Convention in Quebec, Canada on the 24th of May.

The Spirit of Sport Award was created by the Sportaccord Council in 2002 to commend the commitment and humanitarian spirit of Sportaccord members who have made an exceptional and lasting contribution to using sport as a tool for positive social change.
