On April 19, 2012 the FIDE President arrived on a working visit to Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. Together with the Governor of Dnepropetrovsk region Alexander Vilkul in the framework of the 80th anniversary of the Dnepropetrovsk region they opened the World Chess Art Week which will last till April 25.

Chess Art Week started with the session of the simultaneous game on 80 chess boards at the Students' Palace of the Dnepropetrovsk National University named after O. Gonchar. The FIDE President and Alexander Vilkul made the first symbolic moves. The game was played by the famous Israeli chess Grandmaster, the holder of the Guinness Book Certificate Alik Gershon.

The FIDE President visited the local history museum of Dnepropetrovsk where was the exhibition of children's pictures on the chess theme. In the local chess club he had a meeting with chess society of the region. Then Ilyumzhinov visited the A.M. Makarov Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant and Yuzhnoye Design Office. The main directions of the Yuzhnoye's activities are creation and operation of the space-rocket technology. In the evening the Governor and FIDE President attended the charity dinner, the part of the collected funds will go to support children's chess.
