On behalf of the International Chess Federation and its Presidential Board we are happy to congratulate Mr. David Jarrett on his 70th birthday.

He has played chess since schooldays. During the entire period of his successful and fruitful career, the main object of his life outside work has been chess. His chess biography deserves a high recognition. Working as a stockbroker and as a director of the Capel-Cure-Myers Stock Brokers Capital Management in the past, he has been involved in all levels of the chess administration in England. Director of Junior Chess for British Chess Federation in 1978-1985, President of British Chess Federation in 1985-1989, FIDE Delegate for British Chess Federation in 1990-1996, Finance Director of the British Chess Federation in 1990-1992, FIDE Treasurer in 1996-2006, FIDE Executive Director in 2006-2011.

For the recognition of his great work for chess he has been awarded by the following titles and positions as FIDE Honorary Member (2011), Honorary Life Vice-President of the British Chess Federation, Life Vice-President Gloucestershire County CA and Life Vice-President Bristol and County CA.

In many ways thanks to his professionalism, energy and excellent organizational skills, chess in the England became very active internationally. He helped initiate the Oakham Junior Tournaments.

As can be seen by the Certificate, he has many hidden talents! We all in FIDE wish him many happy birthday to come!
