Handing over the CACDEC Travel Grant for a Sri Lankan player, participated in World Youth Chess Championships 2011
The FIDE Development commission, well known as CACDEC decided on a travel grant of 1000 US $ each to the players from CACDEC Countries who performed outstandingly at their regional Championships. They selected 17 players including 10 from Africa, 3 each from America and Asia and 1 from Europe. The three from Asia came as 2 players from Sri Lanka and 1 player from Macau. Unfortunately, one Sri Lankan player Asani Weerasinghe could not attend since the cost of participation is very high. But, Binudi Senarath Yapa, a girl of under 10 years participated in the event.
The picture shows the handing over the 1000 US $ Cheque to Binudhi by Mr. Alan Herbert, the Chairman of the Development Commission of FIDE at the World Youth Chess Championships 2011 in Caldas Novas, Brazil. President of Zone 3.2 of FIDE, Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya is in the center.
