The FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in Montevideo to attend the opening ceremony of the 2nd edition of the Latin American Cup. This year this event with Kirsan Ilyumzhinov as its main sponsor, has gathered nearly 240 players from 12 Latin American countries.
During his visit to Uruguay, the FIDE President has also met with the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. He also called on the Mayor of Montevideo Mrs. Ana Olivera and visited a local elementary school. All his meetings had as the main issue on the Agenda possibilities of introducing chess into school curriculum.
The framework Agreement between FIDE, Uruguay Chess Federation and Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay has been signed during the visit of the FIDE President to this country.
