FIDE President in Grozny, Chechen Republic, Russia

On 8 October the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Grozny, the capital of Chechen Republic, Russia. These days the big celebrations took place there marking City Day.
The Chechen Republic is a federal subject of the Russian Federation. It is located in the Northern Caucasus mountains.
In Grozny FIDE President had conducted negotiations with the Head of the Republic Ramzan Kadyrov. An agreement between FIDE and Chess Federation of Northern Caucasus Federal Okrug, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Physical Training, Sports and Tourism of the Chechen Republic on the FIDE programme "Chess in schools" was signed by the leaders.
Later a ceremony of placing a base stone for the future Chess Palace and International Chess Academy was held. The FIDE President and the Head of Chechnya had also put the capsule with a signed message of an address.
After the ceremony Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Ramzan Kadyrov played chess with young chess players of the Republic. Mr. Kadyrov is also the President of Association of chess federations of Northern Caucasus Federal Okrug.
