On 30 June FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived on a working visit to Lebanon where he met the leadership of the country in Beirut. In particular, the FIDE President had a meeting with the Leader of the Free Patriotic Movement party, General Michel Aoun. The Free Patriotic Movement is represented by 11 Ministers in the newly formed Cabinet of Ministers.
The two leaders discussed the issues of chess development in the Republic of Lebanon, realization of the FIDE programme "Chess in Schools" and possibilities of organization of important chess events in Lebanon.
FIDE President also had meetings with other members of the Lebanese Government including the Minister of Tourism.
It is also planned for the FIDE President to meet with the Ministers of Youth and Sports; Education; Economy and Trade of Lebanon.
Within the framework of his working visit, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov delivered a lecture on the subject "Chess development in the world" at Beirut University. After the lecture he answered numerous questions from the students.
